Data analysis can be messy, easy, time-consuming, quick, rewarding and frustrating. But in general it always goes through four steps once you have a question that you want answered, and those steps are GPAP.
Get the data
Prepare the data
Analyze the data
Present the data
These four steps are at the root of any good data analysis and over the course of the next few posts, we’ll explore what each of these steps entail by following a specific quest for information. As our example, we’ll follow the analysis you would/should use if you want to use previous spending behavior to help create a spending budget. This is a basic task that could benefit any person or household, and some of the principles can also be valuable for small businesses.
